When is the inspection of RVS mandatory?

Which triggers obligate you to conduct a formal inspection of RVS fasteners? And what timeframes apply under NEN 9200?

When is the inspection of RVS mandatory?

Three instances when inspection is mandatory

  • Upon completion of new constructions (acceptance control according to NEN 9200).
  • Periodically: generally annual visual inspections + an in-depth inspection every 5 years.
  • After incidents or visible damage — immediately and with a documented report.

What does an 'in-depth' inspection entail?

An in-depth inspection goes beyond visual observation. This includes:

  • Random disassembly of bolts and nuts.
  • Both visual and light mechanical testing for crack formation.
  • Documentation of photos, material certificates, and inspection dates.
  • Written advice on action points + timelines.

The biggest mistake: relying solely on annual visual inspections

Stress corrosion is by definition invisible until just before failure. An annual visual check does not catch this. Yet, in many swimming pools, this is the standard procedure — a direct legal and safety risk.

Always combine visual inspections with periodic material checks and a centralized compliance dossier. The latter is exactly where PoolFIX helps.
