Why a 2-component epoxy on concrete pools?

Concrete is porous and expands/contracts under thermal load. A single-component alkyd paint will not adhere properly and will start releasing pigment within 1–3 seasons. A two-component high-solid epoxy (81 vol-% solids) penetrates the concrete, forms a chemically bonded film and delivers a 300 µm dry film in 2 coats — enough for decades of service life when applied correctly.

Step-by-step: paint a concrete pool

1. Fine blast to remove old coatings and laitance. 2. Repair cracks and pitting with epoxy repair mortar. 3. Rinse with clean tap water and let dry fully. 4. Mix 75:25 (volume) base on hardener 2V59. 5. Apply first coat by roller or airless spray. 6. Apply second coat after the minimum recoat interval (24 h at 20 °C). 7. Allow full underwater cure (6 days at 20 °C).

What paint do you use for a concrete pool?
A two-component high-solid epoxy such as ACRATON® Dolphin. Standard masonry or floor paint will not adhere and will release pigment into the water.
How much paint do I need for a concrete pool?
At 300 µm dry film in 2 coats, coverage is 2.7 m²/L. A pool of 25 × 12.5 × 1.8 m with floor needs roughly 350 L (18 × 20 L pails).
How long does an ACRATON® Dolphin coating last?
With correct application and average loads, our references last for decades.
Can I paint a concrete pool myself?
Rolling or spraying is straightforward, but blasting, mixing ratios and recoat intervals require a professional applicator. PoolFIX can recommend a certified contractor.
Which colours are available?
8 standard colours (codes 2040–2058) including Pool Blue, Lagoon Blue, Sky Blue, Aqua Mint and Sea Pearl. Custom colours on request.
