When is the inspection of RVS mandatory?

Which triggers obligate you to conduct a formal inspection of RVS fasteners? And what timeframes apply under NEN 9200 (Dutch standard — not automatically applicable as UK or US law)?

When is the inspection of RVS mandatory?

In this article

  1. 1. Three instances when inspection is mandatory
  2. 2. What does an 'in-depth' inspection entail?
  3. 3. The biggest mistake: relying solely on annual visual inspections

PoolFIX material hierarchy

PoolFIX coated is assessed first against validated product/application rules. 1.4529 HCR / Alloy 926 is a restricted, pre-approved ground-level exception within 1.0 metre / 3.3 ft of the water and is never for roofs, ceilings, overhead or suspended applications.

Three instances when inspection is mandatory

  • Upon completion of new constructions (acceptance control according to NEN 9200 (Dutch standard — not automatically applicable as UK or US law)).
  • Periodically: generally annual visual inspections + an in-depth inspection every 5 years.
  • After incidents or visible damage — immediately and with a documented report.

What does an 'in-depth' inspection entail?

An in-depth inspection goes beyond visual observation. This includes:

  • Random disassembly of bolts and nuts.
  • Both visual and light mechanical testing for crack formation.
  • Documentation of photos, material certificates, and inspection dates.
  • Written advice on action points + timelines.

The biggest mistake: relying solely on annual visual inspections

Stress corrosion is by definition invisible until just before failure. An annual visual check does not catch this. Yet, in many natatoriums, this is the standard procedure — a direct legal and safety risk.

Always combine visual inspections with periodic material checks and a centralized compliance dossier. The latter is exactly where PoolFIX helps.

When was your last in-depth inspection?
