What is the safest alternative to RVS?

If A2/A4 RVS is no longer sufficient, what is? We compare super-austenitic 1.4529, coated steel, and other options on cost, lifespan, and safety.

What is the safest alternative to RVS?

In this article

  1. 1. The three serious options on the table
  2. 2. 1.4529: why this is the standard for natatoriums
  3. 3. PoolFIX Coated: cost-conscious for less critical zones
  4. 4. How to choose per location?

PoolFIX material hierarchy

PoolFIX coated is assessed first against validated product/application rules. 1.4529 HCR / Alloy 926 is a restricted, pre-approved ground-level exception within 1.0 metre / 3.3 ft of the water and is never for roofs, ceilings, overhead or suspended applications.

The three serious options on the table

  • Super-austenitic RVS 1.4529 — all-metal, highest corrosion resistance, highest price.
  • PoolFIX Coated — certified steel with a multi-layer pool-resistant coating.
  • Titanium or duplex RVS 1.4462 — niche solutions for highly specific applications.

1.4529: why this is the standard for natatoriums

RVS 1.4529 (also known as UNS N08367 or '6-Mo') contains 6% molybdenum, 25% chromium, and 25% nickel. This composition makes the material virtually immune to pitting, crevice, and stress corrosion in chloride environments up to 60°C — well above any realistic swimming pool temperature.

For the most heavily loaded connections (below the waterline, splash zones, handrails), 1.4529 is the material of choice. We supply standard fasteners (M6-M16) from stock in this material.

PoolFIX Coated: cost-conscious for less critical zones

Above the splash zone, 1.4529 is often overkill. PoolFIX Coated combines high-quality steel with a pool-specific multi-layer coating. For wall and ceiling mountings more than 1 meter from the water surface, this is a reliable and cost-efficient choice.
